My son, who is 9 and loves video games, attended the Under the GUI Academy's Coding for Kids program in Vancouver. Each week, he learned different aspects of video game design, from character creation to basic coding. The instructor, Mia, was incredibly engaging and encouraged the kids to share their ideas. My son built a simple platformer game during the session that he was really proud of. The small group size allowed for personalized attention, which I appreciated. However, I did notice that they spent quite a bit of time in front of screens, which made me a bit uneasy. Overall, I feel this program was worthwhile for my son's creative growth, and I would recommend it, especially for kids who are passionate about gaming and coding.

We enrolled our 9-year-old son in the Under the GUI Academy's Video Game Design program in Vancouver, and overall, it was a solid experience. The instructor, Jake, was really engaging and managed to keep the kids focused while still allowing them to express their creativity. My son built a simple platformer game, which he proudly showcased to us at the end of the session. The small group size meant he got plenty of attention, which was a plus. However, I did notice that they spent quite a bit of time on screens, which made me a bit uneasy, as I prefer a balance with hands-on activities. Pickup was smooth, but I found the parking situation a bit chaotic at times. Still, if your child is creative and enjoys technology, I would recommend giving this program a try.
