I enrolled my 9-year-old daughter in the Visual Arts program at Openstudio Academy of Art and Design in Vancouver, and overall, it has been a worthwhile experience. The classes are held weekly at their convenient location on Columbia Street. My daughter has been really enjoying her time creating her own comic book, and the instructor, Maya, has been particularly engaging, providing helpful feedback and encouragement. She often talks about the unique projects they work on, which keeps her excited about attending each week. One downside was the long lines during pickup; it can be a bit chaotic at times. However, the small group size allows for more personalized instruction, which I appreciate. If your child is creative and looking to expand their artistic skills, I definitely recommend this program with the caveat of planning for a slightly hectic pickup situation.

The instructor, Mia, is clearly passionate about helping the kids express themselves creatively. My daughter particularly enjoyed working on a painting project where she created a vibrant underwater scene, which she was so proud of that she insisted on hanging it in her room. The small group size allowed for personal attention, which I appreciated. However, the pickup can get a bit chaotic, as it tends to be crowded with parents at the end of class, making it a bit stressful to locate her among the other kids. Despite this, I think the program fosters a supportive environment for young artists, and I'm happy to keep sending my daughter here as she continues to develop her skills.
