I enrolled my 12-year-old son in the Real Programming 4 Kids Video Game Design class in Toronto, and overall, it was a solid experience. The small group size (only three other kids) meant that each child got plenty of attention from the instructor, Lisa, who was very engaging. My son loved designing his own levels and characters, which truly tapped into his creative side. One downside was the amount of screen time involved; I felt he could have benefitted from some hands-on, non-digital activities as a break. The location was easy to find, and pickup was smooth, which I appreciated. If your child is interested in both coding and gaming, I definitely recommend this program, but just keep an eye on the screen hours.

My 12-year-old daughter attended the Video Game Design program at Real Programming 4 Kids in Toronto, and overall, it was a solid experience. The small class size, with only four students per instructor, allowed for personalized attention, which my daughter really appreciated. Her instructor, Jake, was not only knowledgeable but also really engaged with the kids, making the process of creating their own games both fun and informative. My daughter built a platformer game, and it was great to see her creativity shine through the project. However, I did notice that some of the activities involved a lot of screen time, which I worry about as a parent. We also had a bit of a chaotic drop-off the first week, but it improved as the program went on. I’d recommend this program for kids who are creative and interested in learning about coding, just keep an eye on the screen time.
