My 12-year-old daughter recently joined the Action Potential Lab's Video Game Design program in Toronto, and overall, it was a positive experience. The instructor, Mike, was really engaging and supportive, helping the kids navigate through the process of creating their own games. My daughter loved designing her character and was thrilled to see her ideas come to life in the game. The small group size allowed for more personalized attention, which was great. One thing I did notice was that the kids spent a significant amount of time on screens. While I understand this is part of game design, I worry about the balance. The weekly sessions kept her excited and eager to learn more about coding and game mechanics, though. Pickup was smooth, which is always a plus for busy parents. I would recommend this program for kids who are creative and interested in technology, just make sure to set some limits on screen time at home!

We enrolled our 9-year-old in the Action Potential Lab's Video Game Design program in Toronto, and overall, it was a good experience. The instructor, Max, was very engaging and kept the sessions interactive, which really helped our son get into the creative mindset. He loved designing his own game character and working on level design with his small group. The group's size allowed for plenty of personal attention, which we appreciated. However, I did notice that some activities involved a lot of screen time, which made me a bit uncomfortable. Balancing game design with other hands-on activities would be ideal. Pickup was smooth, which is a relief, given that some programs can be chaotic at that time. My child made a couple of friends there, which is a bonus. Overall, I would recommend this program, but just keep an eye on the screen time, especially for more active kids.
