Action Potential Lab — Coding

My 9-year-old, Max, has been attending the Action Potential Lab's coding program in Toronto for a few weeks now, and overall, it's been a solid experience. The small group size has allowed him to really engage with the instructor, Sarah, who does a fantastic job of blending science and art into the coding lessons. Max particularly loved the project where they created animated stories using code. However, I did notice that there seems to be a bit too much screen time for my liking; I would prefer a better balance between coding on the computer and hands-on activities. Pickup was straightforward, with clear communication from the staff, which I appreciated as a busy parent. Overall, I would certainly recommend this program to other parents, especially those whose kids are creative and enjoy technology.

The instructor, Jamie, was engaging and really connected with the kids, helping them build a simple game using coding principles. My son was thrilled with the creative project aspect, and he even made a new friend there. However, I did notice that there was quite a bit of screen time involved, which is something I’m cautious about. Despite that, the small group size meant that everyone received plenty of individual attention. If you're looking for an affordable STEAM program for your child, I'd recommend giving this one a try, just keep an eye on the screen use.
