My son attended the Oregon Children's Theatre program in Portland this past month, and overall, it was a solid experience. The staff, particularly our instructor Jack, was very engaged and encouraging, which helped my somewhat shy child slowly come out of his shell. They focused on creative projects, and he particularly enjoyed building a simple set piece for a performance. He even made a new friend, which was a bonus. However, I did find the drop-off a bit chaotic, especially since it’s in a busy area. It would be great if they could improve the organization during that time to make things smoother. While the price was a bit steep for our budget, I believe the creative skills he gained and the joy he felt were worth it. If your child is interested in theatre, I’d recommend this program with the caveat that it may be overwhelming for some younger kids during the busy drop-off window.

We recently enrolled my 9-year-old in the Theatre program at the Oregon Children's Theatre in Portland, and overall, it was a solid experience. The staff, especially our instructor Sarah, was very engaged and worked well with the kids, fostering a creative environment. My child built a small scene with her group, which involved a fun mix of storytelling and improvisation. She even made a new friend, which was great to see since she's a bit shy. One downside was the drop-off process; it was a bit chaotic with many parents arriving at the same time. I recommend getting there early to avoid the rush. However, the overall experience was positive, and my child came home excited about theatre and wanting to attend again next week.
