My daughter, who is 9 and quite creative, attended the Portland Child Art Studio's Science program last month. Each week, the kids explore different scientific concepts through hands-on projects. Last week, they made their own volcanoes and learned about chemical reactions. She was thrilled when her volcano erupted! The instructor, Jesse, was incredibly engaging and really encouraged the kids to ask questions and share their ideas. However, I did notice that the pick-up process was a bit chaotic with long lines forming, which can be frustrating when you just want to get your child and go. On the whole, though, the program feels like a great fit for kids who enjoy hands-on learning, and my daughter made a few friends there. I would definitely recommend it, especially if you can arrive early for pick-up.

My son attended the Science program at Portland Child Art Studio for 8-10-year-olds, and he really enjoyed it. His instructor, Ms. Clara, was very engaging and fostered a curiosity-driven environment. Over the course of the program, he built a small volcano and experimented with baking soda and vinegar, which he couldn’t stop talking about at home. The small group size allowed for personalized attention, which I appreciated. However, check-in and pick-up could be a bit chaotic, as the lines were often long, especially on the first day. Despite the minor hassle, I felt the program was worth the investment, as it sparked his enthusiasm for science. Overall, I would recommend this program if you're looking for a creative outlet for your child.
