My son attended the Camp Blue Melbourne Video Game Design program last week, and overall, it was a solid experience. He’s 12 and very creative, so I thought this camp would be right up his alley. The instructors, especially a guy named Jake, were incredibly engaged and made sure each child felt included in the projects. My son came home excited about the 2D game he designed, and he even made a friend during the camp, which was great to see. The only concern I had was the amount of screen time; while it’s a video game design camp, I wish there had been more balance with some hands-on activities away from the screens. The pickup process was smooth, and the small group size helped with personal attention. I’d recommend it for kids interested in game development, as long as parents are okay with the screen time. It’s a good investment for their creativity.
