My son attended the MRU Camps Video Game Design program in Calgary this summer, and overall, it was a positive experience. The instructors, particularly a guy named Jake, were genuinely engaged and made the learning process fun. My son was able to create his own mini-game, which he was really proud of. The small group size allowed for some great one-on-one help when he got stuck. However, I did notice that they spent quite a bit of time in front of screens, which made me a little uneasy given the long hours. But they did also incorporate some breaks for physical activity, which helped. Pickup was organized, but I did find a bit of a wait at the end of the day. Still, I would recommend it, especially for creative kids looking to dive into game design.

My son attended the MRU Camps Video Game Design program in Calgary this summer, and overall, it was a solid experience. He really enjoyed working on his own video game project, and his instructor, Sarah, was particularly engaging and supportive. The small group size allowed for personalized attention, which I appreciated. However, I noticed that the kids spent quite a bit of time in front of screens, which made me a bit uneasy. I wish there had been more balance with some outdoor activities or hands-on games. Pickup was well organized, making it easy for me to get him at the end of the day. My son came home excited and proud of what he had created, and he even made a friend during the camp, which was a nice bonus. I would recommend this camp with the caveat that parents should inquire about the balance of screen time versus other activities.
