YMCA Camp Riveredge — Nature & Outdoors

My son, Liam, attended the YMCA Camp Riveredge in Calgary this summer, and overall, it was a solid experience. He really enjoyed the archery sessions and even built a small fire with the guidance of his instructor, Sarah, who was enthusiastic and engaged with the kids. The camp was well-organized, and I appreciated the small group size which allowed for more personalized attention. However, the pickup process was a bit chaotic, with long lines that seemed to move slowly. It would be great if they could streamline that a bit. Liam, who is quite active, made a couple of friends and came home excited every day, sharing stories of his adventures in nature. I would recommend this camp, but I’d suggest being prepared for potentially long wait times at pickup.

The camp is located in a beautiful area near the Elbow River, which allowed my child to explore nature through various outdoor activities. They particularly enjoyed the archery session and building a small campfire, which they proudly showed me at pickup time. The instructors, especially a friendly guy named Jake, were engaging and kept the kids excited about each activity. However, the morning drop-off was a bit chaotic with long lines and parking issues, which was a bit frustrating. Despite that, my child was able to make a few friends and came home every day eager to share what they did. If you're looking for a full-day camp that encourages outdoor exploration for active kids, I would recommend it with that caveat about drop-off.
