My son just finished his second month at Straight Blast Gym Calgary in the Spider Monkeys class for ages 5-7. He’s been learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and I’ve seen a noticeable boost in his confidence and coordination. The instructor, Jake, is clearly passionate about working with kids and creates a fun, supportive atmosphere. My son loves the small group size, which gives him more personalized attention. However, I did find the pickup process a bit frustrating; there were long lines during dismissal, which made it hard to keep track of my child among the other kids. That said, he has made a new friend in the class, which is a plus! Overall, I recommend this program for active kids who want to learn martial arts in a friendly environment.

We enrolled our 6-year-old in the Spider Monkeys class at Straight Blast Gym Calgary, and overall, it was a solid experience. The instructor, Lucas, was very engaging and great at managing the kids' energy. My child particularly loved learning how to execute basic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu moves. It was gratifying to see him build confidence and coordination within just a few weeks. The pickup process was smooth, which made our busy evenings a little easier. The only downside was that the class sometimes felt crowded, making it hard for some kids to get individual attention. Still, the inclusive environment helped everyone feel welcome. We found it a great fit for our active child, and I would recommend it to others with a similar age group, just be prepared for a bustling atmosphere.
