Discovering the Horse — Horseback Riding

We recently enrolled our 6-year-old in the Discovering the Horse program in Calgary, and overall, it was a positive experience. The instructors, particularly Sarah, were very engaged and attentive, making sure every child felt comfortable with the horses. My child loved learning about grooming and even got to ride in both the arena and the field, which was a highlight for them. However, we did experience some long lines during pickup, which made it a bit chaotic at times. It would be great if they could streamline that process somehow. Still, my child came away with new skills and made a couple of friends, which was wonderful to see. I would recommend this program, especially for kids who are active and enjoy being outdoors.

The instructors, especially Jenna, are very engaged and patient, which has really helped my shy child come out of his shell. They have both arena and field riding, which keeps things exciting. My son particularly loved learning how to groom the horse before riding; he built a great connection with his horse, Charlie. The outdoor time is a big plus, and it feels good to see him excited about being outside. However, I did find the pickup process a bit hectic, with long lines forming at the end of the session. If you can manage the waiting, it's a solid program that I would recommend, especially for kids who may not have had much experience with horses before.
