My 6-year-old attended the Mad Science of Southern Alberta Coding program in Calgary this past spring. I appreciated that the staff, particularly our instructor Jenna, was very engaging and really knew how to connect with the kids. Each week, my child explored different coding concepts while building fun projects like a simple game and a little robot that moved based on their code. The hands-on approach kept them excited and curious about technology. However, drop-off was a bit chaotic, with too many parents in a small space and little organization. It felt overwhelming for my shy child at first. After a couple of weeks, they adjusted and even made a friend, which was great to see. Overall, I would recommend this program for kids looking to spark an interest in coding, but be prepared for a hectic drop-off experience.

We recently enrolled my 6-year-old daughter in the Mad Science of Southern Alberta's coding program in Calgary, and overall, it has been a great experience. Each week, the children work on fun hands-on projects, and my daughter has been really enjoying creating her own little games. The instructor, Mia, does a fantastic job of keeping the kids engaged and excited about coding. They even make the lessons relatable by connecting coding concepts to things kids love, like video games. One small annoyance was the long lines during pickup time; it can get a bit chaotic and frustrating. Additionally, while the group size was small, making it easier for the kids to get individual attention, I noticed that some quieter kids struggled to participate fully. All in all, I think the program is a solid choice for kids who are curious about technology. If your child enjoys being creative and working on projects, this could be a great fit. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait during pickup.
