If your child has a knack for technology and enjoys games, Penguin Coding might be a fun way for them to explore video game design. It sounds like a great chance for kids to get hands-on experience in creating their own games, even if the details are a bit sparse right now.

I enrolled my 10-year-old in the Penguin Coding Video Game Design program in Cobble Hill, and overall, we had a good experience. The instructors, like Sarah, were quite engaged and made sure each child was participating. My son got really into creating his own character and coding some simple game mechanics, which was great to see. The small group size helped him feel comfortable and really allowed for creativity to flow. However, I did notice that they spent a lot of time on screens, which I wasn’t expecting. I had hoped for a balance between coding and some offline creative activities. Pickup was straightforward, but it would be nice if they provided more updates on daily activities. Despite the screen time concern, I do think it’s a solid program for kids interested in tech and design, and my son made a new friend there, which is a big plus.

My 12-year-old son recently attended the Penguin Coding - Cobble Hill Video Game Design program, and overall, it was a solid experience. The instructor, Jenna, was very engaging and really seemed to connect with the kids. They spent the week designing their own video games and my son particularly enjoyed creating his character and storyline. I also appreciated the small group size, which allowed for more hands-on support. However, the pickup process was a bit chaotic; we often had to wait in long lines, which was frustrating after an already long day for the kids. While the price point is a little on the higher side, I feel it was worth it for the skills and creativity my son gained. I would recommend this program to parents looking for something stimulating for their kids, particularly those with focused and creative interests.
