My 4-year-old has been attending Ya Ya Mandarin Immersion Preschool in Brooklyn for a few weeks now, and overall, we’ve had a positive experience. The small group size has allowed for more personalized attention, which is great for my shy child. They engage in creative projects like crafting simple Mandarin vocabulary flashcards, which my child is excited to show me every week. The instructor, Mei, clearly has a talent for making language fun and accessible, and my child is starting to pick up basic Mandarin phrases. However, I did find the pickup process a bit frustrating; there were long lines at times, which made it difficult to manage my other commitments. Also, I wish there was more communication on what activities were planned each week, as it would help me reinforce the learning at home. Nonetheless, I believe this program is beneficial for young children, especially those like mine who might be a bit reserved. I would recommend it with a couple of caveats.
