My son, who is 12 and quite creative, recently attended the weekly D&D with Dee video game design program in Austin. It was refreshing to see how engaged the instructor, Dee, was with the kids. They worked on building their own levels and learned coding basics, which he found both challenging and rewarding. The small group size really allowed for more individualized attention, which I appreciated. The only downside was the long lines during check-in. It could definitely be streamlined. Overall, my son loved the experience and came home excited about the projects he was working on. I’d recommend it, particularly for kids who enjoy games and are looking to delve into the details of what goes into making them.

My 12-year-old son just finished a month in the D&D with Dee Video Game Design program in Austin. He was excited every week, coming home with stories about what he learned. Each class, he collaborated with a small group of peers to design their own video game. He particularly enjoyed working on character design and developing game mechanics. Dee, the instructor, was very engaging and provided constructive feedback, which really helped boost the kids' creativity. However, I did notice that the screen time was a bit excessive for my liking; I wish there had been more hands-on activities away from the computer. Pickup was smooth, but I would recommend arriving a little early just to avoid any long lines. Overall, I think it’s a solid program for kids who are interested in game design, especially if they have a creative flair.
